Mary King's eNews - Strategies to Ecomomise
May 2007
Hello,
I asked a friend what she would like to read a letter about. If one person wants to know there are sure to be a few others.
She said she would like to learn how to identify where her money is going, how to curb her extravagance, ways to cut back and where she is excessive.
Here are some of my thoughts.
You could write down everything you spend to see where your money is going. You then have an opportunity to be more economical as a choice. There are so many ways that money leaves us. When we realize our lavish behaviour we can make another choice and direct that money to our goals.
Foe example, we could choose a cheaper plan on our mobile phone. We could also text message more often, especially regarding arrangements. How often do we ring to give a time or date when a text does the job every bit as well? Sometimes a text is better because you have a record. It is useful to text because messages may be handled conveniently. It is cheaper to make calls on fixed lines rather than mobiles.
Spending money buying cups of coffee and eating lunches out is a quick way to go through your cash. It may be more delicious and more prudent to bring food from home. At one cup of coffee a day five days a week you have the money to pay the rates on more than one apartment! Taking lunch from home might pay two months mortgage on one apartment. Is this an idea worth thinking about?
Lunch menus are often much cheaper than dinner menus. Make a choice between eating out for lunch or dinner. Lunch is often available at a reduced rate compared with dinner. Many restaurants offer a set lunch menu at a very reasonable price. BYO restaurants can cost less than licensed restaurants.
To finish a meal with something sweet, instead of eating dessert have a cappuccino and put sugar in it. If you prefer it without sugar the sweetness of the chocolate dusted on top can solve the problem.
Watch items as they go though the register at the supermarket. If you point out an overcharge you can receive the item at no cost. Recently I got a jar of coffee in this way. It helps the supermarket if you point out the situation. If they are overcharging (by mistake) it builds ill feelings in the customers.
The next two-day workshops Rich is Better Wealth for Women will be held in Healesville on 21st & 22nd July (phone Shelly on 0423263635), Melbourne on 28th & 29th July and Sydney 18th & 19th August. Enrol in Melbourne or Sydney by visiting the website www.maryking.com.au
These are some simple ways to save money. The main benefit is that they get you into the habit of thinking about your money whilst giving you more to save and invest. These savings could go into your Freedom Fund Jam Jar Bank. Watch that bank grow!
